Magic Mendez and Harmony Blackwell
The Whispers' mysterious “Rock Steady” bass player is the group’s long-time collaborator Magic Mendez. The multi-instrumentalist has worked with the icons since 1993, writing and producing songs on four of the last five Whispers albums.
Since 2020, Magic has produced all nine of The Whispers' single releases, playing every instrument himself. Magic is actively producing new Whispers music like “It’s Been Too Long” and their recent single release, “Maybe The Fire Isn’t Out.” He continues re-recording songs from The Whispers catalog so the icons can own their master recordings.
Singer/musician Harmony Blackwell joined The Whispers as a playback/programming engineer, vocalist and interpretive dancer in 2016, making history as the First Lady Whisper. This follows three decades of behind-the-scenes Whispers’ support with recording, production coordination and vocals. Harmony excels in this highly technical position, which is traditionally dominated by men. Onstage she honors the awesome choreography of the late, great Whispers’ Nicholas Caldwell, while adding inspiring movement and sound to The Whispers’ incredible LIVE shows.
When Magic and Harmony aren’t busy with The Whispers, they create in various disciplines and genres as Me and My Friends and offer one-stop musical mastery at Magic Muzik Productions, LLC .
